Two Must Visit Restaurants in the Greater Toronto Area

Two Must Visit Halal Restaurants In the GTA

Toronto – specifically the GTA – boasts a vast selection of food options available from all around the world. Regardless of the type of cuisine you’re craving, Toronto has something for everyone, including those with dietary restrictions. If you’re like me and have had difficulty finding quality halal food in Toronto, here are a few of my favourite options in the area that you may enjoy.

Karahi Point

Locations:
2642 Islington Ave, Etobicoke, ON M9V 2X5
2201 Finch Ave W, Toronto, ON M9M 2Y9
6905 Millcreek DrMississauga, ON L5N 6A3

My first recommendation is Karahi Point. With 3 locations in the city to serve you, this authentic Pakistani restaurant serves up curries cooked in a special pot called a “karahi”.  It is similar to a wok in the sense that it is also a deep circular cooking pot. They offer a variety of karahis from different regions in Pakistan with meat options of chicken, beef, lamb, and goat. Vegetarians can also enjoy the paneer (cheese) option.

The karahis are made to order, ensuring that only the freshest food reaches your table. Although this may lead to longer cooking times, the restaurant sets clear expectations regarding the wait times on their menu.

This restaurant also serves up other mouth watering items such as nihari, kababs, chicken tikkas, and biryanis.

I personally recommend either the Finch or Mississauga locations, as they offer a much larger dining space. My experience dining at Finch location has always been great; it typically takes 20 – 30 minutes for your food to arrive after ordering. One of my personal favourites is the boneless dark meat chicken karahi (serves 2 – 4 people). The dark meat is more tender and flavorful than the white meat options. The karahis are served with 2 naans and raita. The naans are incredibly buttery and soft, and they compliment menu items incredibly well. I would recommend ordering one naan per person. Pair the karahi with any of your favorite BBQ items and you are on your way to an amazing meal.

Top Gun Burgers

Top Gun Burgers is my #1 place to go if I’m ever craving a gourmet burger. They serve up the most amazing burger creations including the gargantuan Destroyer Burger (bottom right picture). This beast features two beef patties, Canadian cheddar cheese, crusted portobello mushroom, beef bacon, guacamole, pico de gallo, and chipotle aioli, all served up between two grilled cheese sandwiches.
I haven’t mustered the courage to try this absolute unit of a burger yet, but if I ever do, I will make sure to bring a hungry friend to help out.
Having personally visited 4 of their locations (Markham, Keele, Kensington Market, and Etobicoke), I can say for a fact that the food quality is exceptional every time I visit.
My burger of choice here is The Flying Zone Burger (bottom left picture). You get 4 crispy fried chicken strips and a beef patty. It is the best of both worlds; the exquisite crunchiness of the chicken and the juiciness of the beef patty. It typically takes 15 to 20 minutes to get your order, but you will not regret it.
It should be noted that it is a messy endeavor to eat burgers from here, as the buns tend to disintegrate. Make sure you have extra napkins nearby to wipe your face as you devour the burger.
